From Construction Equipment Guide... CNH Global N.V. recently announced the creation of Fiat Kobelco Construction Machinery S.p.A. (Fiat Kobelco). The new joint venture will encompass both the operations and distribution network of Fiat-Hitachi and Kobelco’s European activities. CNH will own 75 percent of the new entity, Kobelco Construction Machinery Co. Ltd. No one heard “Timber,” only the sound of shears ripping apart concrete during American Services Group Inc.’s, recent demolition of four buildings along Race and Sixth streets in Cincinnati. The Cleveland-based company, which started the project in December 2001, will continue debris and soil excavation until the September 2002 completion date. From Construction Equipment Guide... Komatsu America Corporation (KAC), held the grand opening of its Newberry Manufacturing Operation (NMO) in Newberry, SC, on May 29, 2002. The $20-million facility is the new home for production of four Komatsu backhoe loaders including the WB140-2N, WB140PS, WB150-2N and the WB150PS. Located 35 mi. northwest of Columbia, SC, the NMO facility is set on 80 acres (32 ha). Villager Performs Picture-Perfect Pipe Work Near Kodak →

The water is flowing smoothly again under the streets near Kodak in Rochester, NY. Working 12-hour days, Villager Construction, of Fairport, replaced 3,500 ft. (1,066 m) of concrete water pipe with new 36-in. (91.4 cm) diameter ductile iron piping. The new bridge across Patterson Avenue on the east side of Winston-Salem, NC, is taking shape right alongside the deteriorating bridge it will replace. That’s the problem: The close proximity of one bridge to the other has handicapped the contractor on the project. “It’s very difficult,” said David Rowe, president of Smith-Rowe Inc. “We’ve had to put this big steel together without having enough room to do it.” The bridge will carry traffic on Oak Summit Road, which at that point rides the summit of a hill as it passes over Patterson Road.  Click for more...

Only 2 mi. of Interstate 93 south of Manchester, NH, have been directly affected by the rehabilitation of four different bridges along the highway. Once the work is finished, though, traffic flow for miles up and down the highway will be greatly improved.
