Route 422 Improvements Get Kick-Start From ARRA →

From Construction Equipment Guide... Federal stimulus funding is kick-starting hundreds of construction projects country wide, and the rehabilitation and resurfacing of a 4.5 mi. (7.2 km) stretch of Route 422 in Montgomery County, Pa., was one of the first Commonwealth projects financed by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to get under way. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is investing more than $275.5 million on improving bridges and roads, upgrading signals, installing Intelligent Transportation System equipment, and bringing more than 3,500 handicap curb ramps up to required design standards in the five-county area making up the Philadelphia region.  Click for more...

Up for bid was equipment from Ensley Excavating, and several local equipment dealers as well as equipment from other local contractors and bank and financial companies. Joined by bidders from around the world, the bidding remained active. Rendell’s Accelerated Bridge Program, which is adding $200 million a year to the mix of federal and state funds the state invests in bridges. In 2009, the overall investment in bridges in Pennsylvania totaled more than $1.6 billion. From Construction Equipment Guide... Over the last few years BLS has had a number of applications for its Nyrim track pads, developed for low ground pressure applications. Last year Roy Strom Excavating and Grading Company, of Chicago, Ill., purchased Nyrim tracks pads to dig underneath a skyscraper being built in downtown Chicago. Its machines were sinking into the Lake Michigan clay before it tried the Nyrim track pads.
