Neither spring flooding nor early winter weather in October could cause refinishing of an 11-block section of Main Avenue in West Fargo, N.D., to miss its fall completion deadline. Work on the $8.6 million project, between Sixth Street West, near the Sheyenne River Crossing, and Fifth Street East, included reconstruction of the road surface, turning frontage roads into parking areas and constructing a bridge over the Sheyenne River; construction of the bridge, however, was later postponed. Kobelco Announces Strategy for Tier IV Interim Requirements →

Kobelco Construction Machinery America recently announced its strategy to meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier IV interim emissions requirements that begin in 2011. Introduced in two phases, Tier IV regulations represent the biggest reduction in heavy equipment emissions to date. Tier IV final emissions requirements, which take effect in 2014, will reduce particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by 90 percent, compared to Tier III requirements. New South Street Bridge in Philadelphia Under Way →
It was time to take action to replace an almost 90-year-old bridge spanning the Schuylkill Expressway (Interstate 76) in Philadelphia. Not only was the South Street Bridge structurally deficient, but a six-ton weight limit was in operation, and in addition, the structure had been shedding chunks of concrete, including some that landed on the expressway. (7.2 km) stretch of Route 422 in Montgomery County, Pa., was one of the first Commonwealth projects financed by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to get under way. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is investing more than $275.5 million on improving bridges and roads, upgrading signals, installing Intelligent Transportation System equipment, and bringing more than 3,500 handicap curb ramps up to required design standards in the five-county area making up the Philadelphia region.
