Rendell’s Accelerated Bridge Program, which is adding $200 million a year to the mix of federal and state funds the state invests in bridges. In 2009, the overall investment in bridges in Pennsylvania totaled more than $1.6 billion. Fourth and fifth graders from P.S. 115 in Brooklyn, N.Y., learned about the newest environmentally friendly construction equipment — a Komatsu Hybrid PC200LC-8 — when they visited a construction site adjacent to the Canarsie Pier near exit 13 of the Belt Parkway on Dec. 1. From Construction Equipment Guide... Over the last few years BLS has had a number of applications for its Nyrim track pads, developed for low ground pressure applications. Last year Roy Strom Excavating and Grading Company, of Chicago, Ill., purchased Nyrim tracks pads to dig underneath a skyscraper being built in downtown Chicago. Its machines were sinking into the Lake Michigan clay before it tried the Nyrim track pads. I-40 Landslide May Take Six Months to Clear →

Officials with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) believe that a large rock slide blocking both directions of Interstate 40 just east of the Tennessee line could take as long as six months to clear. The slide happened in the early morning hours of Oct. 25 at mile marker 2.6 in a rugged mountainous area of Haywood County. As a result, one of the Southeast’s major thoroughfares is closed from Exit 20 in North Carolina west to Exit 451 in Tennessee, forcing a detour that will take motorists many miles out of their way.  Click for more...

McArthur Court, nicknamed Mac Court and The Pit, is the second oldest on-campus gym in the country, according to UO’s sports history Web site.
