JCB, which launched a seven-model tracked excavator range in North America during the ConExpo trade show in March l999, has expanded its line to 12. The five new JCB JS Series models, already familiar to the European market, have been available in North America since the last quarter of 1999. They have operating weights from 18 metric tons to 33 metric tons (23 to 42 tons) and include one long-reach (LR) excavator and three machines designed for extra heavy duty (XD). The JS180 offers a lift capacity of 5,069 kilograms (11,265 lbs.) at ground level, with 6-meter (20 ft.) reach over the front. Its relatively small dimensions allow for easy transportation and good maneuverability in confined areas. The JS220 LR, with a reach of 15 meters (49 ft. 2 in.), is well-suited for working along waterways and roadside embankments. The long reach boom (interchangeable with an optional standard excavator end for extra versatility) is configured so that digging can be accomplished right up to the tracks. JCB’s JS220 XD, JS260 XD and JS330 XD are heavy-duty machines for demolition sites and other arduous applications. The XD models feature maximum track motor, swing motor, mainframe and superstructure protection, along with a specially reinforced dipper. A fully-tested FOPS cab cage is standard so the operator can feel at ease. For more information, visit www.jcbna.com. This story also appears on Construction Equipment Guide.
