Melroe Co. has developed a standard quick-change system for compact excavators and backhoes. The Bobcat X-Change Mounting System provides many advantages over previous attachment methods and other brands of quick-changes. The X-Change system used on the Bobcat 337 excavator since its introduction is now being made for other Bobcat excavators and backhoe attachments. There are two styles of the X-Change system, one for excavators, the other for backhoes. The automatic latch version is currently used on the 331, 331E, 334, 337 and 341 excavators. The second style is a bolt-on version for use on Bobcat skid-steer loader backhoe models 709, 811, 709FD and 8709. Instead of the automatic latch system used on the excavators, it uses a bolt-on plate to retain the bucket. Even though converting an entire attachment mounting system can be a challenge, the advantages of this system far outweigh any initial confusion. Both X-Change systems feature: • Common buckets for Bobcat backhoes and excavators. That means less inventory. • Easier one-person attachment changes. Less labor and effort. • Excellent breakout forces and clearances. No sacrifice in performance. • Wear-compensation for snug attachment fit-up. • Commonality of attachments. • Easier bucket changes on machines equipped with the Clamp attachment. X-Change Buckets A new and improved bucket style was developed in conjunction with the X-Change system. It requires different buckets than those used with the old pin-on system. The new buckets have an X-Change bracket incorporated into the bucket structure. The entire bucket is a new design and features bolt-on shanks with replaceable teeth, scalloped side edges and replaceable side cutters. For more information, visit webmaster@bobcat.com.
