Contractors involved in building Atlanta’s new 17th Street Bridge reached a major milestone recently when they set the last of the structure’s 48 steel beams in place. “The beam setting operations have been as smooth as we could have imagined,” said Mickey McGee, metro district construction engineer of the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). “We owe a big ’thank you’ to our contractors, to Mother Nature, and to Atlanta’s drivers, who heard the construction messages and avoided the area during work times.” The contractors working on the bridge include crews from C.W.  Click for more...

Several pair of Sandhill Cranes decided to avail themselves of one of the retention ponds that had been excavated at the site. From Construction Equipment Guide... Holidays wreak havoc on the highways of Nebraska. Just ask Les O’Donnell, spokesman for District 6 of the Cornhuskers’ State Department of Roads. Last Fourth of July, torrential rains washed out the approaches to two bridges on Interstate 80, closing the nation’s busiest highway for a week while repairs were made. (84,101 cu m) of granite along a portion of the State Route 49 widening project in Cabarrus County, NC. The drilling and blasting work is being done by Mid-South Drilling Inc. and the material is being removed and placed in a controlled fill by Davie Grading Inc.
