As part of an agreement with aggregate suppliers Vulcan Materials and Bluff City Materials, Iron Horse Grading and Excavating is performing a mass excavation on a 186-acre (75.3 ha) site, to provide access to limestone known to be in the area. Deciding to spend its money on machines from a well-established dealer, Bruce Albea contacted Cowin Equipment, which opened its doors to Georgia customers one year ago. In preparation for moving an extensive amount of dirt and material for its upcoming jobs, Bruce Albea purchased a trio of Terex TA40 articulated trucks and a Kobelco SK480 hydraulic excavator. The hard rock tunnel boring machine weighs 690 tons (621 t) and came all the way from Japan on a ship large enough to haul it. The machine will be used to bore an immense tunnel beneath Providence, which is designed to store up to 62 million gal.
