To the east, a short line of rotating three-axle Volvo end dump trucks were taking turns as a Caterpillar excavator removed more of the hillside to make room for the four-lane connector road, which will be the new entrance into the airport. After the dumps picked up their load, they crossed a bridge over a portion of the Catskill Aqueduct System — which runs the airport, headed by boarded-up barracks, once part of the Stewart Air Force Base — and dumped their earth into a landfill, just south of the airport terminal.
