Tollway Links Future to Ecological Heritage →

The 12.5-mi. (20 km) six-lane extension of the North-South Tollway from where Interstate 355 ends at Interstate 55 (the Stevenson Expressway) through Will County to Interstate 80 opened to bicycle traffic on Veteran’s Day Nov. 11 to considerable fanfare as communities along the route staged local festivals to coincide with opening ceremonies. Project to Reduce ’Near Misses’ During Trips to Airport →

Before Honda Corp. can put Burlington, N.C., on the map as the manufacturing center for a heralded new product, the company needs a facility in which to build it. This fall, Mainline Contracting Co. of Durham, N.C., jump-started the construction that will put the Japanese company in its facility. MoDOT Carves New $44M Path Through Ozark Hills →

Tucked in the rough Ozark hills is Missouri Department of Transportation’s (MoDOT) current two-lane Route 5 project, which winds from the city of Camdenton north to the Niangua Bridge on the Lake of the Ozarks in Camden County. In April 2006 MoDOT awarded a $44.3 million contract to McAninch Corporation of Des Moines, Iowa, to carve a new route through the rock and earth of the Ozark hills. For Chandler Lloyd, owner of Able Contracting, all the toy trucks paid off. “I was a kid that never grew up,” he explained. “I liked Tonka trucks and now I like big trucks. It’s like you get paid to play.”The interest has worked out well for Lloyd, whose Ridgeland, S.C., company now has 28 trucks, one dump truck, three crushers, three excavators, two densifiers, a hammer, three loaders and three screeners.  Click for more...
