According to the National Weather Service, the tornado that hit Suffolk, Va., April 28 had estimated winds of 160 mph. Amazingly, over the tornado’s 10-mi. (16 km) path through the city, there were no fatalities. Reports say approximately 200 injuries occurred in the state of Virginia that day because of the numerous tornados that hit. Crews Race to Complete Concord Dragstrip for September Event →

Plans call for the quarter-mile track to be open in time for the Sept. 11 to 14 National Hot Road Association (NHRA) Carolinas Nationals event, an inaugural event on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
