By Zoie CliftCEG CORRESPONDENTA 9-mi. (14.5 km) bypass to west of the city of Sheridan is being built in Arkansas. When completed the route will be a four-lane divided highway anticipated to ease congestion along Highway 167. The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) let the first contract for the job in April of 2008 to T.J. Work began on the project last summer and construction is slated to be complete by this summer. Downrite Engineering, whose headquarters are based in Miami, is the prime contractor on the project. “The improvements we are providing are required due to [the] impact the onsite job [Kendall Town Center] will have on Kendall Drive and the adjacent roadways,” said Eddy Hernandez, vice president of estimating, Downrite Engineering.  Click for more...


McCrary Stone Service Crushing Rock in the Appalachians →

The company worked on North Carolina and Tennessee highway projects. Upon his retirement his sons bought the business and, in 1968, incorporated it as McCrary Stone Service Inc. According to the owner, Pat McCrary, “My dad crushed rock onsite for both highway and dam projects. Caltrans tapped FCI for the $51.1 million SR-99 Fairmead Interchange project, which is located near Madera, Calif., in the San Joaquin Valley.
