The reconstruction of a portion of Interstate 84 (I-84), which is nearing completion, required an array of heavy construction equipment to meet project challenges and normal project needs. According to Rick Negro, the project manager of Plainville, CT-based Manafort Brothers Inc., the project’s general contractor, the project, which began May 21, 2003, included the reconstruction of 3 mi. Miami Gardens Drive Job Focal Point of New City →

Just more than a year after it began, three separate but related reconstruction projects in the 2-year-old city of Miami Gardens, FL, are progressing nicely toward completion. They represent the final phase of a comprehensive plan designed to improve traffic flow and safety along Miami Gardens Drive. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) launched the projects in February 2004. The work includes Miami Gardens Drive from NW 28th Place to NW 2nd Avenue, and is expected to last approximately two years at an estimated cost of $20 million.  Click for more...

Debris toppled onto the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 401, which is mid-way between the French Broad River and Mt. Pisgah in Buncombe County, NC. According to Jeff Bradley, project manager of Taylor & Murphy Construction Co. Inc., in Asheville, NC, repair work began in early February. Controlling erosion at the work site along state Route 20 (Hawthorne Road) in Alachua County, FL, has added a weekly task to an already busy project for Russell Engineering of Ft. Lauderdale. Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Spokesman Chip Skinner said new regulations have created a “zero tolerance” policy for off-site discharge in FDOT’s District 2. Komatsu America Moves Artic Truck Production to Tennessee →

From Construction Equipment Guide... Komatsu America Corp. moved the production of its 30- to 40-ton (27- to 36-t) articulated truck from Mooka, Japan, to Chattanooga, TN, in January. Joining production of Komatsu’s mid-size excavator line at the Chattanooga facility are the HM300-1, HM350-1 and HM400-1 articulated trucks used in earthmoving, road construction and quarry applications.
