Metso
Metso introduces the Outotec Robotic Split Strip, an advanced solution for separating the cathode sheets from the cathode plate in copper electrorefining operations.
Applicable for both new and existing plants, this compact system with intelligent flexible design combines hydraulic control and robotics to optimize the cathode stripping process for maximum precision, minimal waste and long-term sustainability.
Customer Benefits
"Traditional split strip machines rely on larger mechanical structures and a higher number of components, which increase installation effort, spare part needs and maintenance time," said Peter Nord, technical product manager of Metso. "In comparison, the Robotic Split Strip introduces a compact and highly integrated design. Its advanced robot technology replaces several fixed mechanical functions, enabling flexible machine layouts and improved access for operators and maintenance personnel."
"In addition, the latest hydraulic technology allows precise, individual control of each movement, improving performance especially in demanding conditions such as sticky cathode plates," added Nord. "The result is a stripping solution that is easier to install, easier to maintain and better suited for modern electrorefinery tankhouse layouts."
Key customer benefits include:
• Smaller footprint and lower weight, reducing structural requirements and environmental impact.
• Less downtime, enabled by fewer installed parts and simplified maintenance.
• Improved operational reliability, with precise control of all movements.
• Flexible layouts, made possible by robotic handling and modular design.
• Retrofit capability, allowing easy integration into existing stripping machines.
These benefits translate into faster commissioning, easier operation and a more cost-effective lifecycle compared with traditional stripping technologies.
