The Hitachi ZX130-7 and ZX160LC-7 excavators are full-sized excavators engineered to efficiently complete a wide range of tasks on the job site. They incorporate the latest fatigue-fighting comfort enhancements, hydraulic system refinements for increased performance and fuel savings, and changes to further simplify service.

"The ZX130-7 and ZX160LC-7 feature a number of improvements and updates to provide more productivity, performance, operator comfort and fuel efficiency," said Patrick Baker, product manager, medium and large excavators, Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas Inc.

The 30,870-lb. ZX130-7 offers a maximum dig depth of 19 ft. 9 in. and a bucket breakout force of 23,380 lbs. (104 kN). The ZX160LC-7 has an operating weight of 39,463 lbs., a maximum dig depth of 21 ft. 4 in. and a bucket breakout force of 25,179 lbs. (112 kN).

The HIOS IV hydraulic system increases fuel efficiency by minimizing hydraulic loss during operation. It ensures a responsive boom, arm and bucket with intuitive, smooth control. The ZX130-7 and ZX160LC-7 feature adjustable attachment, arm and swing priority through the monitor to match machine performance with the attachment.

The ZX130-7 uses a proven 100 net hp (74.9 kW) Isuzu engine. A durable Yanmar engine powers the ZX160LC-7, producing 132 net hp (98.6 kW). It features economy, power, high- power modes to best match available power to the working conditions. An auto idle system with auto shut-down control prevents wasted fuel.

The new 8-in. LCD, anti-glare monitor includes an attachment preset system, allowing operators to preset flow rates and pressures for up to 16 attachments.

Designed for Operator Comfort

"A larger cab with ergonomic controls on the ZX130-7 and ZX160LC-7 excavators addresses customer demand for a comfortable operator environment. This results in increased productivity through reduced operator fatigue," said Baker.

The larger cab includes a dual adjustable seat and console. This allows operators to find the perfect operating position to remain comfortable for long working days in the seat. Low-effort pilot controls reduce operator strain and enhance operator controllability. For convenience, switches have been collectively installed on the right side with easy access to those frequently used.

The quiet cab features four fluid-filled elastic mounts that reduce vibration when travelling. The 8-in. monitor also includes Bluetooth radio so operators can remain hands free and focused on the task. Long-lasting LED lights provide visibility in challenging conditions.

Designing cabs with panoramic visibility helps create a safe and comfortable working environment. Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas Inc. takes this a step further with its Aerial Angle peripheral vision camera system. It provides a wide 270-degree bird's-eye view of the machine's immediate environment. The operator can select five different Aerial Angle viewing screens on the monitor. This allows the preferred viewing position for enhanced safety and productivity. A rear view camera allows the operator to see the area right below the counterweight.

Built-in Durability

Hitachi excavators are renowned for durability and the ZAXIS-7 excavators feature enhancements to critical components such as the undercarriage and boom. On the undercarriage, an anti-mud-compaction lower roller design helps prevent mud from entering and damaging the oil seals. The upper and lower rollers also feature improved idler sealing.

The ZAXIS-7 excavators feature a strengthened boom end and foot. For durability, the bushings are installed in the brackets at the boom end and the boom foot.

Boost Uptime

"Ease of service was a major consideration when updating the ZX130-7 and ZX160LC-7 excavators. This saves operators time and helps ensure maximum uptime," said Baker.

Simplified daily maintenance and enhanced durability features keep operators right where they need to be — up and running. Wide-open engine covers provide access for maintenance, while filters are within easy reach and take just minutes to maintain. Access to clean the radiator has been enhanced.

Several enhancements keep dirt and dust out of vital components. A spin-on type fuel filter prevents dust from entering the fuel circuit during maintenance. An inner element of the engine air filter protects the engine from dust ingress while cleaning the outer element. Even the air conditioner is protected with an internal filter with a seal that prevents intrusion of dust into the air conditioner unit.

Tracking maintenance is simplified with the multifunctional monitor. It indicates preset maintenance intervals each time the key is turned on. Engine oil and coolant levels can be conveniently checked right from the operator's seat.

Using telematic tools to monitor machine health helps boost uptime. ConSite, which remotely monitors operational status and alerts owners and operators to upcoming maintenance needs, is making a leap forward.

A dealer-installed option on the ZX130-7 and ZX160LC-7, ConSite OIL, monitors engine and hydraulic oil conditions to proactively catch issues before any fault codes are triggered in the machine. This helps drive uptime by catching oil degradation before damage to critical systems can occur. This allows operators to focus on the work that needs to be done.

ConSite Air allows the excavator to be diagnosed remotely. It also allows remote updates of the software. The servicing dealer can remotely diagnose issues that may arise, leading to increased uptime. The ConSite response team is on standby to rapidly resolve issues as they emerge.
