Worldwide Rental Services (WRS), one of the fastest-growing independent heavy machinery rental companies in the Rocky Mountain region, has opened yet another facility, this time in Albuquerque, NM. Albuquerque joins the Denver, CO, and Salt Lake City, UT, facilities as a full-service WRS rental location. Mike Shero, manager for Albuquerque comes from the Rust Caterpillar group, where he was highly involved in the rental industry. Shero has more than 17 years experience in the rental business, and is a second-generation New Mexico equipment man. “We are fortunate to get men with Mike’s experience and contacts,” stated Jim Maetzold, WRS general manager. “People are the key. We are continuing to build this business on relationships and superior service. The equipment part of the business is the easy part.” WRS is constantly adding new low-hour machines to its Albuquerque inventory with new acquisitions such as an 815F, new 4,000-gal. water truck and 140H’s, a D6R LGP, a 988F, a 950G and Komatsu PC200 Super Reach excavator. WRS, a subsidiary of Worldwide Machinery in Houston, TX, was established in 1996 and has grown rapidly in the rental of “big iron” for all segments of the construction industry. The WRS fleet includes all types of earthmoving equipment, as well as a large variety of specialty machinery such as water gear, Deere 9400 draw bar tractors (with discs, scrapers or sheepsfoot rollers), demolition hammers, concrete processors and shears, pipeline equipment and excavators that are equipped with a variety of thumbs, couplers, grapples and other specialty attachments. Currently, there are more than 200 machines based in Denver alone. “Our mission is to help the contractors grow their business profitability,” said Mike Rooney, WRS sales manager. “We enable them to perform a broader variety of work without having to make a huge investment in equipment. All equipment eventually breaks down and WRS mechanics work only on WRS machines. We pride ourselves on prompt response to our customers’ service needs. We separate WRS from the competition by attending to a downed machine faster than anyone else.” WRS operates the newest fleet of fully equipped service trucks in the region. The trucks are staffed by highly trained technicians. “The average age of our service trucks is under three years, and we have brand new units on order,” said Harold Alton, WRS service manager. Originally from Empire Cat, Alton has established a first-rate group of highly trained service personnel. “Our customers are really our best advertising. Ask anyone who has used us and they’ll tell you that the difference between WRS and the competition is our concern, and our responsiveness to their service needs. “Be it a service or sales issue, we get back to them quickly and help solve their problem. That’s the standard attitude here at WRS,” Alton said. The WRS shop was built in 1988 at the company’s Denver facility. The staff prides itself on being capable of handling any task including line boring, component rebuilds, sophisticated electronic diagnostics and heavy fabrication. In all, the Denver facility has 12 acres of shop space and offices, and houses 200 pieces of heavy equipment. The Salt Lake operation directed by manager Mike McDonough boasts more than 60 major pieces of heavy equipment on its four acres that include a shop and office facilities. The new Albuquerque location on two acres includes 25 units of construction equipment. The combined resources of these locations give WRS the capability to serve the Rocky Mountain region including southern Colorado, New Mexico and west Texas. WRS customers in these areas include major highway and heavy contractors, as well as mining, environmental and government entities. WRS enjoyed a good 2002 and is looking forward to an even stronger 2003 with ongoing plans to expand and update its rental fleet, and enlarge its service capability to serve the region. The WRS motto is, “If you’ve got the job, we’ve got the iron.” This story also appears on Construction Equipment Guide.
